French and French colonial history. The Department of History at the University of Pittsburgh seeks applicants for a tenure-stream assistant professor beginning fall 2012, pending budgetary approval. Ph.D. should be completed by September 1, 2012.

We seek a French and French colonial historian specializing in any period between the 17th and early 19th centuries. Individuals with interests in political, social, economic, cultural history and the history of ideas are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in early modern French, French colonial, and European history, normally including one writing seminar annually, and graduate seminars, as well as to contribute to a new cross-disciplinary initiative in eighteenth-century studies. We ask candidates to demonstrate how their research and teaching will contribute to one or more of our graduate program.
